Questions
Exercise:
1. Which of the Buddhist festivals most appeals to your sensibilities? Perhaps you can find a celebration of this event locally. One celebration that I have been a part of was Buddha's Birthday. I was visiting the Buddhist Temple in my area with a friend of mine because we were both interest in learning more about Buddhism. It was during the same week that they had Buddha's Birthday celebration. They asked us to return for the celebration. There were food offerings, plus people brought food for everyone who joined in the celebrations. Flags were flown and decorations were put on the walls, Chinese lanterns were lit with candles, plus we participated in a ceremonial prayer. It was great!
2. "So let the master settle, and wander." What does this mean to you? It means to me that you should live on this earth without destroying it or changing it.
3. If Buddha were alive today, would he preach abstention from eating meat? Why or why not? He might since they way animals are butchered today is viewed as cruelty. If less and less people ate meat, then there wouldn't be a reason to butcher them using an assembly line.
