Wedding Ceremony List

The Wedding Ceremony of __________ and __________ Jackson

Welcome:

Today we have come together to witness the joining of these two lives.  For them, out of the routine of ordinary life, the extraordinary has happened.  They have experienced the delicious stages of romance, the discovery of the love of substance and depth that they are consecrating with their commitment today.  Romance is play, but true love is intention, and it is their intending to love for life that we are celebrating today.  But today is also a celebration for the rest of us, for it is a pleasure for us to see love in bloom, and to participate in the union of two people so delightfully suited to one another.

I would like to take a moment to recognize the family members of __________ and __________ and to thank them for their love, support and devotion, as they grew from adolescence and into the two beautiful individuals who are here before us on this special day.  We thank you for teaching them values and being there and showing them the beauty and joy of loving another.  This is also a time to celebrate all of those who have touched your lives but are not able to be with us today but are here in spirit.  We are a part of everyone who has ever loved us.  Let us remember them with a moment of silent reflection.

Charge to the Couple:

Treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together.  Give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves.  When frustrations, difficulties and fears assail your relationship—as they threaten all relationships at one time or another—remember to focus on what is right between you, not only the part which seems wrong.  In this way, you can ride out the storms when clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives—remembering that even if you lose sight of it for a moment, the sun is still there.  And if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight.

Opening:

Today, we are witness as __________ and __________ commit themselves to one another.  __________ and __________, I now ask you to speak in truth to one another, and to repeat in the spirit of faithful engagement these words of solemn declaration that will bind you together.

Statement of Intent:

Do you, __________ take this woman as your wife and life-long companion; and do you promise to love her for as long as you both shall live?

__________:  I do

Do you, __________, take this man as your husband and life-long companion; and do you promise to love him for as long as you both shall live?

__________: I do

Presentation of the Bride:

Others would ask, at this time, who gives the bride in marriage, but, as a woman is not property to be bought and sold, given and taken, I ask simply if she comes of her own will and if she has her family’s blessing.

__________, is it true that you come of your own free will and accord?

__________:  Yes, it is true.

With whom do you come and whose blessings accompany you?

Father:  She comes with me, her father, and is accompanied by all of her family’s blessings.

Set your mind on the higher gifts.  And now I am going to put before you the best way of all.  Though I command languages both human and angelic—if I speak without love, I am no more than a gong booming or a cymbal clashing.  And though I have the power of prophecy, to penetrate all mysteries and knowledge, and though I have all faith necessary to move mountains—if I am without love, it will do me no good whatever.  Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offense or store up grievances.  Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in truth.  It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.  Love never ends.

Blessing of the Hands:

__________, please face __________, and hold his hands, palm up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.  These are the hands of your best friend, young, strong and vibrant with love, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as he promises to love you all the days of his life.  These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your most innermost secrets and dreams.  These are the hands you will place with expectant joy against your stomach, until he too, feels his child stir within you.  These are the hands that look so large and strong, yet will be so gentle as he holds your baby for the first time.  These are the hands that will work long hours for you and your new family.  These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.  These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy.  These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when you are afraid or grieving.  These are the hands that will tenderly lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into his eyes; eyes that are filled completely with his overwhelming love and desire for you.

__________, please hold __________’s hands, palms up, where you may see the gift they are to you.  These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young and carefree, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as she pledges her love and commitment to you all the days of her life.  These are the hands that will hold each child in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurt, supporting and encouraging them along the way, and knowing when it is time to let go.  These are the hands that will massage tension from your neck and back in the evenings after you’ve both had a long hard day.  These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.  These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving.  These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.  There are the hands that will hold you in joy and excitement and hope, when she tells you that you are to have a child, that together you have created a new life.  These are the hands that will support you as she encourages you to chase down your dreams.  Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized.

Let us pray.

God, bless these hands that you see before you this day.  May they always be held by one another.  Give them the strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment.  Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love.  Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace, rich in caring, and devoted in reaching for your perfection.  May __________ and __________ see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter and guide.   We ask this in your name.  Amen.

Vows:

__________ and __________, you have expressed your intent to be wed and have the blessings of your friends and family.  I will now ask that you repeat your vows to one another.

__________:  My love, now do I make my promises to you.  I promise to share laughter in times of joy and wonder; to share tears when sorrow touches our lives; to share my dreams and hopes, that our love and minds may grow; to share compassion and understanding during times of frustration and anger; to share all that I have and all that I am for all the days of my life.

__________: I, __________, do ask you, __________, to be my partner in marriage.  I ask that you accept my strengths and my faults as I promise to accept yours; I ask for your support and strength when mine fails, as I promise my strength and support in your times of need.  I bring you, with best intention, my love, my understanding, all that I have and all that I am for all the days of my life.

Remember, anything beautiful that you have, came from God.  In the beginning, God gave us our free will and our identity to walk this earth. Don’t ever try to change each other, because if you do, you will lose exactly what you fell in love with. So, each day try to find one more thing that is beautiful in each other and each day know that the next day will be more beautiful than the one before.  As long as you are doing this, you are seeking beauty, joy, and love in each other.

Address to the Guests:

Will all of you, present here and witnessing these vows, assist and support this couple in their union?

Response:  We will.

As this couple is joined, so are your families united through them.  It has been their decision to bind together in marriage, and their lives will be blessed and enriched by the support you give.  Will you encourage and bless __________ and __________ in their union?  Will you celebrate their marriage, standing beside them in rough times, yet never standing between them?

Response:  We will.

You are friends and relatives of this couple, and thus you are an important part of their lives.  Their interactions with you are colored by your actions and words.  You have a responsibility to one another and to this couple to be supportive, understanding, and honest, on this day of their marriage do I charge to you temper all of your dealings with love.

Ring Ceremony:

The shape of the ring symbolizes the unbroken circle of your love and the unbroken union of your hearts.  These precious elements will serve as reminders in the months and years to come, of how precious in your sight, your loved one is this day and ever will remain.

Please repeat after me these words.

__________,

__________, with this ring, I embrace you fully as my wife.  Accept this ring as a symbol of my affection and complete love for you.  By accepting this ring you give to me my most cherished possessions—your beauty, your heart and my future.

__________:  I accept this ring from you and I will wear it as a sign of my love for you.

__________:

__________, with this ring, I embrace you as my husband.  Accept this ring as a symbol of my affection and complete love for you.  As this ring encircles your finger, so shall my love forever encircle your heart.

__________:  I accept this ring from you and I will wear it as a sign of my love for you.

Unity Candle:

__________ and __________ will now light the unity candle to symbolize the union of their lives and their families.  From now on their thoughts shall be for each other, and joys and sorrows shall be shared alike.  By allowing the flames of the two smaller candles to remain lit, they also accept the individuality of each other as a means of fulfilling their oneness.

Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other.  Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the other.  Now there will be no loneliness, for each of you will be companion to the other.  Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you.  May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead and through all the years.  May happiness be your companion and your days together by good and long upon the earth.

Pronouncement:

__________ and __________, you have made your vows, one to the other, before God and this company, and exchanged tokens of your love.  By the power of your love, I do pronounce you, husband and wife.

You may kiss your beloved.

Rose Ceremony:

__________ and __________, your gift to each other for your wedding today has been your wedding rings—which shall always be an outward demonstration of your vows of love and respect; and a public showing of your commitment to each other.  You now have the most honorable title that may exist between a man and a woman—the title of “husband” and “wife”.  In the elegant language of flowers, red roses are a symbol of love, the giving of a single red rose is a clear and unmistakable way of saying the words “I love you”.  For this reason it is fitting that the first gift you exchange as husband and wife would be the gift of a single red rose.

Please exchange your first gift as husband and wife.  You both have given and received one of the most valuable and precious gifts of life—one I hope you always remember—the gift of true and abiding love within the devotion of marriage.

In every marriage there are times when it is difficult to find the right words, and the ones we love the most are the ones we can most easily hurt.  There are times when it may be difficult to say “I’m sorry” or “I forgive you” or “I need you or “I’m hurting”.  __________ and __________ I would ask that wherever you make your home, that you choose a special location.  And at those times when words fail, that you leave a red rose at that spot you have both selected—a rose that will say what matters more than all other words…” I still love you”; the other should accept this rose for the words that cannot be found, and remember the love and hope that you both have shared today.

Benediction:                                                                           Danny
