Saying Kaddish, the Jewish mourner's prayer, is something people do every single day for eleven months straight. Obviously it is only a profoundly meaningful prayer that one will say for that long. Yet, paradoxically at the very same time, saying Kaddish, often three times a day, for eleven months is nothing if not for a recipe for saying it in an empty and meaningless way, completely by rote.
