1. What is“patristics”?

According to Google - branch of Christian theology thatdeals with the lives, writings, and doctrines of the early Christiantheologians.

2. What was thesignificance of the title “father of the church” and who usually received thatkind of title? Who were the “apostolic fathers”?

Father of the church referred to a title given to to someonewho you have given your loving loyalty to. Title usually given to bishops and usually used in the Western church,from the 3rd century A.D., it was used for the orthodox giants of the Christianchurch and teachers. A “apostolicfather” was one who had known the apostolic personally and were theirdisciples. Their writing were betweenA.D. 95 and A.D.150.

3. How do thewritings of the apostolic fathers help us in understanding the teachings andpractices of the early Christian church?

Since they knew the apostles 1st hand they were familiarwith the doctrines, they witness the lives of the apostles and knew how theylived and struggled so they could write down how it all related to everydaylife, how to pass on teachings and how the apostles wanted the early church torun and what to believe and not believe.
